Middleborough Police and deputies from the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department Warrant Unit were serving a warrant for several outstanding charges at 469 Wareham St. this morning. Police said when the suspect saw the officers approach, the suspect opened fire with a long gun.
This comes about a month after Officer Sean Gannon of Yarmouth was shot and killed while serving a warrant.
“Today’s standoff was very similar to what happened with late Sgt. Sean Gannon. We took a softer approach today.” Said @MiddleboroughPD

Route 28 (Wareham Street) was closed in both directions between I-495 and Spruce Street. Motorists should continue to avoid the area, which is mostly industrial.
Massachusetts State Police tweeted that they are assisting with assets and an Air Wing in the situation, and they have shut down Ramp 1-495 northbound to Exit 3.
Police said the status has remained the same for several hours and they will provide an update when the situation has ended.
