LYNN, Mass. - A 36-year-old man was stabbed to death in Lynn Monday afternoon, according to the police department.
Police were called to Union Street just after 2:30 p.m. where a man had been reported stabbed, according to Lynn Police Lt. Michael Kmiec. The man was taken to Salem Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities told Boston 25 News that the victim was homeless.
Witnesses say a woman was allegedly assaulted a by a man before someone stopped in to help.
"There was screaming at first, I heard," said Joe Sanchez of Lynn. "When I first came outside, there was someone lying on the floor."
Sanchez saw the aftermath of where the victim was stabbed to death. Jose Rivera lives directly below the crime scene.
"The next thing you know, cops are knocking on my door saying, 'you know this lady?'" Rivera said. "She went upstairs and said, 'some guy hit me in my face, yeah a guy hit me and someone stood up for me.'"
Right now, it's unclear if the man who was stabbed to death was trying to help or not. Authorities have not released the victim's name.
Lt. Kmiec later told Boston 25 News the investigation had become a murder investigation. The Middlesex County District Attorney's Office has not released any suspect information, but police say the suspect(s) are still at large.
