Possible explosive device in Chelsea was not live grenade, police say

CHELSEA, Mass. — Authorities in Chelsea have deemed a potentially live grenade found inside a building as inert.

Police received a call at around 11:30 a.m. Monday for reports of a possible live grenade inside an apartment at 266 Revere Beach Parkway.

According to police, the device was discovered during a well-being check.

The State Police bomb detection unit was called to the scene and police evacuated the building as a precaution. Parts of the Revere Beach Parkway were shut down but have since been re-opened.

The State Police Bomb Detection Unit took the device to Revere Marsh for detonation.
