Police catch man accused of break-ins in Halifax, discover he's wanted for murder

HALIFAX, Mass. — Police in Halifax say they've arrested a suspect accused of breaking into multiple houses and cars in the Brandeis Circle area.

They also discovered that the suspect is wanted in connection with a 2017 murder in New London, Connecticut.

Jamir Johnson, 18, is alleged to have shot and killed a 21-year-old man last year. New London Police had issued a warrant for his arrest in May.

He's also accused of 54 car break-ins in Halifax and several house break-ins, according to police.

Halifax Police said months of surveillance work finally paid off around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday when Johnson was seen riding a bicycle through the Brandeis neighborhood. Johnson was wearing clothing and rubber gloves, similar to the suspect captured in a video by a homeowner.

Police said they stopped Johnson for questioning and after a "short foot chase" arrested him.

Johnson is facing charges of breaking and entering, possession of burglarious tools, failure to identify, resisting arrest, receiving stolen property, and being a fugitive from justice.

Johnson is held on a $50,000 bail for the break-ins in Plymouth District Court and will be taken to Connecticut where he will be charged with murder.
