Police investigating homicide, 3 other shootings in same area of Dorchester

BOSTON — A man was killed and three others were injured in a rash of shootings in Dorchester.

Officers responded to 91 Westview Street at around 3:40 a.m. Saturday after reports that a person was shot. The victim, an adult male, was transported to a local hospital where he later died from gunshot wounds.

Police were canvassing the area all morning looking for evidence.

Three other victims were injured in separate shootings Friday night through early Saturday morning in the same area of Dorchester. The most recent shooting was at around 8:30 a.m. Saturday. One of the shootings happened in front of officers not long after a carnival village parade was wrapping up.

Boston Police Commissioner William Gross said the four Dorchester shootings are not a direct result of the carnival events, but rather the neighborhood parties leading up to the parades.

"Even though we tell people year after year [to] be careful when you go to house parties, and we're very proactive in asking neighbors to identify places so that we can shut them down," Commissioner Gross said.

All three victims were taken to local hospitals for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Police haven't identified them or the deceased man.

Two arrests have been made, and police say they're still investigating the shootings.
