DOVER, N.H. — A 76-year-old Dover man shot his son to death in what he claims was self-defense, according to the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office.

On Saturday, police found John Davis, 76, outside his home on Three Rivers Road with gunshot wounds. When they went into the house, they found the man’s son, Brenton Davis, 55, dead.

Police say John Davis told officers Brenton had shot him before he was able to get a shotgun and fatally shoot Brenton.

They were the only two home at the time, according to police.

The Attorney General’s office said an autopsy confirmed Brenton died of a shotgun wound and it has been called a homicide.

The incident remains under investigation.
