• 6-8 foot snake located after going missing from Newton property

    NEWTON, Mass. - Police in Newton announced on Saturday night that the missing six-to-eight-foot snake that went missing from a nearby residence on Tuesday evening has been located.

    The snake, named "Lightning," is a Burmese python, according to a missing wildlife advisory from the town's police department.

    Per police, the pet's owner described the snake as gold, black and yellow. The Animal Rescue League noted that the snake would likely be out in warmer weather but would likely seek out warm places during cold weather, such as garages.

    The pet apparently escaped from a backyard on Jewett Street in Newton around 5 p.m. on Tuesday evening. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the snake was asked to call 617-796-2100.
