WORCESTER, Mass. — A 21-year-old woman was killed after police say she was accidentally shot inside a Worcester home early Tuesday morning.
Police were called shortly before 1:30 a.m. for a report of a person shot.
The woman, identified by family as 21-year-old Suheill Ortiz, was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. Officers found Ortiz inside a house on Oread Street.
On Tuesday evening, police arrested 37-year-old Djarflo Irving for manslaughter, carrying a firearm without a license, and possession of ammunition without a license.
The building's owner, Chris Valeri, said it's a 12-unit home for people who can't afford apartments.
"It’s sad, you know it's sad that someone has to die -- any time of the year," Valeri said. "It's someone's daughter could be someone's mother, it's a family member it’s a human life."
According to the Worcester Telegram, the home was the site of 11 overdoses between September 2016 and August 2017.
