Neighbors on edge after person rushed to hospital in Dorchester shooting

BOSTON — A person was shot on Southern Avenue in Dorchester Friday afternoon, according to Boston police.

The person was taken to the hospital with what emergency responders called non-life threatening injuries.

SKY25 was over the scene, where evidence markers littered the ground and the hoods of cars where bullet holes could be seen.

Boston Police believe road rage led to the shooting in the middle of the day, and said a pedestrian crossing Southern Avenue became angry with the driver of an SUV.

Neighbors were on edge after the incident, in a busy area with children around.

Boston native Ayisha Eddins came out of her home on the road and quickly realized shots had been fired.

"It kind of sounded like fireworks at first," Eddins said. “I heard some more shootings and I heard someone shouting - someone calling someone the B word and next thing I heard - I saw the guy standing in the middle of the street with blood running down his shirt.”

Eddins said the incident isn't uncommon, but it was still shocking.

"This happens every day," Eddins said. "But it's crazy all the same time that people could go to that extent.

Charles Daniels, the leader of the Fathers Uplift organization on Southern Avenue, said a bullet could have easily hit his building.

"What's even more disrespectful is for someone to shoot in broad daylight," Daniels said. "At least have some courtesy for the fathers and families that are here in this city trying to do better in their lives."

Even more important, the bullet could have hit someone else.

"It's sad that bullet could have hit anyone's child,' Daniels said. "Could have hit anyone, my son, someone else's kid. It's scary, it really is."

The victim is expected to recover from his injuries, and police are still searching for suspects.
