Polar plungers raise over 20K for Massachusetts Special Olympics

NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. — Participants in North Attleboro's first ever polar plunge were thankful for the warmer than normal weather on Saturday afternoon.

However, the bravery of jumping into icy waters for a noble cause was still there.

"It was honestly really empowering to see everyone come together to help the kids," said Grace McSweeney, a senior at Attleboro High School.

Students in Attleboro took a dive for their Special Olympics athletes and raised a whooping $25,000 in support of the event.

The lack of beaches and lakes in Attleboro was no excuse for these engaged students. Pools were set up in the parking lot at the Attleboro High School for the fundraiser.

"This has been an amazing experience, I mean, for Attleboro to host its own polar plunge and raise almost 25K is just absolutely amazing," said Attleboro High School Principal Bill Runney. "Its a demonstration of everything blue pride because acceptance and appreciation for everyone is part of what we do here on a daily basis."
