PD: Woman assaults store clerk with wine bottle, threatens officer

MANCHESTER, N.H. — A woman has been charged with assault after police say she assaulted a store clerk and threatened a police officer.

On Wednesday night, Manchester Police responded to the Kenoco Gas Station on Elm Street for a report that a woman was throwing items around the store.

The responding police officer found 25-year-old Beth Whittaker pacing in the back of the store. When he identified himself, he said Whittaker walked aggressively toward her, picked up a bag of charcoal and threw it at him. It missed him.

The officer then deployed his stun gun but says it had no effect on her.

She then picked up a large glass bottle of water and held it over her head, yelling at the officer to get away from her. At that point, the officer brought her to the ground and placed her under arrest.

The officer then assisted the clerk who was holding an ice pack to his nose. He told police Whittaker came into the store, picked up a few items and ran out. He went after her, grabbed her by the backpack and dragged her back inside.

While he called police, he said she tried to run again and when he stopped her, she started screaming and throwing things. The clerk said she then took a bottle of red wine and swung it, hitting him in the face. He had a bloody nose, but refused medical treatment.

Whittaker was charged with first-degree assault, criminal threatening, criminal mischief, theft by unauthorized taking, resisting arrest, and violation of bail conditions.
