Patriots release Antonio Brown

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Antonio Brown's time as a New England Patriot was short-lived.

Sunday's home game against the New York Jets would have been Brown's first game at Gillette as a New England Patriot. But the Pats decided to release him late Friday afternoon as the NFL's investigation into his sexual assault allegations continue.

He lasted 11 days after he signed a one-year, $15 million contract. And his only stats as a Patriot came in last Sunday's game at Miami, where he recorded 4 catches for 56 yards and 1 touchdown.

Brown came to Foxborough with baggage. Shortly after signing, it was announced that his former trainer filed a civil lawsuit claiming she was sexually assaulted and raped by Brown three times. This week, Brown was accused in a Sports Illustrated story of making unwanted sexual advances to another woman, who claims Brown sent her threatening text messages.

Coach Bill Belichick and the players aren't commenting.

Brown's agent tweeted that it's unfortunate that things didn't work out with the Patriots, but that Brown is healthy and looking forward to his next chance in the NFL.

After being on three different teams in less than one year, it's unclear where he'll end up as the NFL investigates.
