Norwell street near Route 123 reopened after police standoff

NORWELL, Mass. — A man who barricaded himself inside a home led to a police standoff and authorities closing a portion of Washington Street, also Route 53, on Tuesday.

At 2:27 p.m., officers responded to a report of a domestic disturbance in the area of 480 Washington St.

Officers identified a man who barricaded himself in a room and was reported to be armed.

The man came out of the home after 1 1/2 hours. He was taken to a local hospital for a medical evaluation.

No injuries were reported.

Authorities temporarily shut down Washington Street at Hall Drive and Route 123.

In a Facebook post, Norwell Police thanked other departments for their assistance.

"We are thankful no one was injured during this incident," police said. "We are also appreciative of the support we received from the Hanover Police Department, Hingham Police Department, Hull Police Department, Scituate Police Department, Cohasset Police Department, Rockland Police Department and METRO LEC."
