NH Gov. Chris Sununu’s flu-like symptoms not COVID-19, tests confirm

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu has been discharged from the hospital and is recovering at home after being treated for a bleeding ulcer, his office confirmed Saturday.

Sununu was hospitalized with flu-like symptoms earlier this week, and his chief of staff later reported it is not COVID-19.

“Tests have confirmed that a bleeding ulcer caused the symptoms the Governor has been experiencing this week,” Sununu’s Chief of Staff, Jayne Millerick, said in a statement.

Millerick said Sununu received a blood transfusion on Friday and was doing “much better.”

“He is extremely grateful to the staff at Portsmouth Hospital for their outstanding care and to everyone who donates blood,” Millerick said in the statement.

Millerick said Sununu is a blood donor himself, and was happy to pay it forward and was grateful for all blood donors.

“New Hampshire is blessed with amazing health care staff and generous blood donors,” said Sununu said in a statement on Sunday. “Valerie and I can’t thank them enough and are grateful for everyone’s prayers and positive outreach.”
