Netflix developing film based on Pete Frates

The Ice Bucket Challenge is becoming a movie.

A new film based on the life of Beverly-native Pete Frates is being developed by Netflix.

The script is based on the 2017 book "The Ice Bucket Challenge: Pete Frates and the Fight Against ALS" and will be star local actor and Academy Award-winner Casey Affleck.

Frates, a former Boston College baseball captain, was diagnosed with ALS in 2012.

His promotion of the Ice Bucket Challenge helped to raise over $200 million to help fight the disease.

Frates and his family recently set up a foundation to help others ALS families who want to battle the deadly disease at home. The family is hoping the foundation will help ease the financial burden ALS families face, providing round the clock care.
