Spurs coach Gregg Popovich to miss 2 games after minor medical procedure

San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich underwent a minor medical procedure on Friday, the team announced.

Popovich will miss their next two games, including Friday’s against the New Orleans Pelicans. He is expected to return for Thursday’s game against the Houston Rockets at the AT&T Center in San Antonio.

Neither Popovich nor the team elaborated on the procedure. He was with the team for their pregame media availability on Friday afternoon, but Popovich sat when speaking with reporters.

Popovich has missed at least one game already this month due to an illness, though the team didn’t elaborate then either.

Assistant coach Brett Brown will lead the Spurs until Popovich returns.

Popovich, 73, is in his 27th season leading the Spurs, who entered Friday’s game with a 6-16 record and on a nine-game losing streak. He is the league’s all-time winningest coach with 1,350 wins.
