Parent says bus driver turned off air conditioning, closed windows to punish children

SILSBEE, Texas — A Texas school district is investigating if one of its substitute bus drivers punished students by turning off the vehicle’s air conditioning and forcing the children to close all the windows until they behaved.

Sara Pedder, the mother of five children who ride the bus, said her children came home earlier this week drenched with sweat, KENS reported.

Pedder’s daughter told her the situation started when elementary school students were being loud.

Peddler said her daughter told her that the us driver said, “‘Everybody needs to sit down and be quiet. I know it’s hot in here but you can thank your little friends for that,” but the children wouldn’t be quiet.

"My high schooler told me, at some point, someone said something about rolling down the windows and she (the bus driver) just kept saying, 'You're going to burn up until you shut up,'" Pedder told KENS.

Officials at the Silsbee Independent School District are investigating the claims, KENS reported. Part of the investigation involves reviewing video recorded during the bus ride.
