Naomi Osaka announces release of 1st children's book, 'The Way Champs Play'

Naomi Osaka is adding "children's book author" to her ever-expanding resume.

The four-time Grand Slam champion announced Tuesday she is publishing her children's book debut, 'The Way Champs Play,' with a release date set for Dec. 6. An unspecified portion of the book's proceeds will go toward Osaka's Play Academy foundation.

Naturally, the book is being published through Osaka's production company Hana Kuma.

Osaka's announcement:

So excited to finally announce the release of my first children's book, The Way Champs Play. It's the first publishing project under my production company @hanakuma. I hope this book inspires kids to chase their dreams and encourages them to believe they can do anything they put their minds to. This book holds an extra special place in my heart as a portion of the proceeds will go to my foundation @playacademynaomi which works to support young girls in sport.

It officially releases on December 6th, but you can pre-order today at the link in my bio and get a signed bookplate to put inside your book! @HarperKids @kamala_nair @hanakuma @playacademynaomi

Named the highest-paid female athlete in the world earlier this year, Osaka's business empire has recently been expanding at a rate that would make her business partner LeBron James blush. In the last two years, she has purchased a stake in the NWSL's North Carolina Courage, launched a new skincare line, opened Hana Kuma in partnership with James and opened her own sports agency.

On the court, though Osaka is finishing up a difficult year. She was ousted from the US Open in the first round last month, making 2022 the first year in which she didn't win a Grand Slam since 2017. Continued issues with injuries were a recurring story, along with other incidents.
