MSP: Driver arrested for hit-and-run on off-duty state trooper

BOURNE, Mass. — A driver collided with an off-duty Massachusetts State Police trooper Tuesday evening and then jumped in the back of a passing truck to escape the scene, according to state police.

The off-duty trooper and his wife were driving across the bridge when their car was hit by a driver in a 1999 Toyota Coupe that, police say, crossed the center line.

Dashcam video from an 18-wheeler recorded the incident as it unfolded. The Toyota nearly slammed into a guardrail after accelerating, forcing the driver to overcorrect and cross four lanes of traffic before slamming into the trooper's car.

According to police, the driver of that Toyota got out of his car and jumped into the back of a passing landscaping truck, riding all the way to West Barnstable.

Adilson Segolini owns the trailer that May escaped in. He says he never saw May hop in as he slowly passed the accident.

The trooper's wife was taken to Beth Israel Hospital in Plymouth for evaluation and released Wednesday afternoon.

Police say Gregory May, 35, was driving that Toyota and was arrested after police caught up with him Wednesday morning at a relative's house in Bourne.

May was arraigned in Falmouth, charged in connection to the crash and leaving the scene, according to police.
