MSP: 20-year-old killed after car goes airborne, hits ceiling of Mass Pike tunnel

BOSTON — A driver was killed early Sunday morning when his car went airborne and hit the ceiling of the Mass Pike tunnel underneath Back Bay, according to police.

Massachusetts State Police say the 20-year-old Brookline man died at the scene, but a female passenger was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police say it’s unclear why the Audi he was driving went airborne, but the car hit the ceiling and ripped down wires and cables.

The crash near the Prudential Center is under investigation. Police said it was unclear why the vehicle went airborne.
