Police searching for driver in Lynn motorcycle hit-and-run

LYNN, Mass. — A driver in Lynn sped through a stop sign on Friday night and crashed into a motorcycle driver, severely injuring the man.

Witnesses tell Boston 25 News the driver of the car didn't stop to aid the motorcycle driver and left him sitting in a pool of his own blood.

"I stayed in the car, I was so shocked, I was shaking like 'oh my god did he die, is he ok?'" said Natalie Thomas, a witness.

Thomas saw it all happen right in front of her. She was sitting in her car when she saw the driver run through the stop sign.

"The guy just plowed through him, his light's still there, half his bumper's still there," said Joseph Di Marco, a witness who lives in the neighborhood.

Pieces of the car can be seen scattered all across Western Avenue in Lynn after witnesses say the car didn't stop to check on the victim, until it eventually stopped a few blocks up the road.

"I freaked out, I broke down," said Genesis, who lives in the neighborhood. "So when I looked out the window I just saw the guy lying down with half of his leg missing and basically bleeding a lot."

Thankfully, several Good Samaritans rushed to help the man before first responders could arrive.

"(His friend) had a shirt so she tied something in his legs because he was bleeding a lot, just to stop the bleeding," said Thomas, another witness.

"Another gentleman put a tourniquet on his leg, probably saved his life," said Di Marco.

The horrific crash hit a little too close to home for neighbors like Di Marco who drives around in a motorcycle.

"I just came past here on my way home from work, about 15 minutes before this happened on my motorcycle, so it kinda makes me worried about the way people drive around here," said Di Marco. "This could have been me."

The victim was transported to the Massachusetts General Hospital with serious injuries and will undergo surgery on his leg.

Police are actively searching for the driver and anyone who may have been in the car. They are also trying to find if there are any security cameras nearby that may have caught the incident on tape.
