Medway family says coyote approached 9-year-old girl

MEDWAY, Mass. — A family was shaken Sunday when a coyote came out of the woods and up to their granddaughter in broad daylight.

Nine-year-old Amanda was sitting on a golf cart the Johnson's use to get around their farm, which is five acres. Suddenly, a coyote walked out of the woods and and right up to her, just feet away.

“He was close enough, she could have reached out and touched him,” Paula Johnson, Amanda’s grandmother, said.

Amanda screamed, and ran towards her dad, who was mowing the lawn nearby. The dad shooed the coyote back into the woods.

“I didn't like it. I just ran away as fast as I could over to where my dad was,” Amanda said.

However, that wasn't the end of the coyote.

The family said they are used to coyotes, and usually see them every day. But this coyote was different - it showed no dear of humans.

“This is the first one that was that brazen. And he was just different. But he was not sick, he was not scrawny. He was healthy looking,” Paula said.

Amanda is still little skittish about being outside.
