Mattapan shooting victim was Boston DPW worker, previously targeted

Boston Police said they are still looking for the person who shot a 55-year-old man multiple times inside a home on Manchester Street Saturday night.

The victim's wife identified the man as Alexander Allen. Allen was a Boston Department of Public Works employee who worked for the city for more than 20 years.

Allen's wife says he is the same man who survived being shot while in his DPW vehicle nearly eight months ago. Boston Police have not commented on any connection to Saturday night's shooting.

"He really didn't have any enemies," Dola Allen said. "He really didn't. He was a people person."

Allen was found with multiple gunshot wounds around 11:15 p.m. Saturday. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday, according to police.

"I heard this noise and you know, 'Pow, pow pow,' and it just felt like 'Oh my god, this must be my house,'" Dola Allen said. "The door was kicked in. I didn't know exactly what happened, but I knew it wasn't good."

Allen's wife said she lost her hero in the shooting, after 20 years of marriage, all after someone shot her husband while he was napping on his couch.

"I just lost a wonderful man," Allen's wife said. "It's terrible. It's dreadful, it's really traumatic."

The homicide adds to a rising total in the city over the first eight months of 2018.

"One homicide is too many," Boston Police Commissioner William Gross said. "Last year at this time, we were at 32 homicides. This marks the city's 33rd homicide."
