The Daily Item reports that the Economic Development and Industrial Corp. of Lynn and the property's owner will enter into an agreement with Lynn Housing Authority & Neighborhood Development to develop the property into a mix of affordable and market-rate townhouses.
James Cowdell, EDIC/Lynn's executive director, says the land was severely contaminated and had to be cleaned to make it safe for homes. The $200,000 cleanup, which involved removing gas and oil tanks from the ground, was paid for with an Environmental Protection Agency grant.
A groundbreaking is planned for the spring, pending approval from the City Council, the Zoning Board of Appeals, and Planning Board.
