Marblehead man pleads guilty to rape, other charges

MARBLEHEAD, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A Marblehead man pleaded guilty Tuesday to rape and indecent assault and battery charges after posting nude photos of the victim on Facebook. He also pleaded guilty to identity theft and photographing an unsuspecting person in the nude, according to a release from Essex District Attorney's office.

Reid Jones, 44, was sentenced to five to seven years in prison followed by five years of probation. During his probation, he must register as a sex offender, wear a GPS monitoring bracelet, seek substance abuse and sex offender treatment, and avoid contact with the victim.

If the case had gone to trial, Essex Assistant District Attorney Kate MacDougall was prepared to share evidence that would have proven that the defendant sexually assaulted the victim while she was unconscious and partially nude, took photos of those acts and posted them to a fake Facebook page he created using her name, the release said. The victim found out about the fake page after she stopped contacting the defendant. She reported the fake page to police and investigators found additional photographs that represented a rape on the defendant's computer.

"This crime is particularly horrifying as the victim was sexually assaulted and was then further violated by the posting of the photographs," MacDougall said. "The impact of this crime will have a lingering effect on this victim since there is no way to ensure that the photographs are fully removed from the Internet."

Jones was taken into custody after the hearing.
