Manchester police officer arrested for hit-and-run

MANCHESTER, N.H. — A 22-year-old woman was hit by a car driven by a Manchester Police Officer shortly at 1 a.m. Sunday, according to police.

Steven Cornacchia, 31, was driving the Mustang that slammed into the woman while she was crossing Merrimack Street, before taking off, police said.

Cornacchia has been a sworn officer with the Manchester Police Department since 2013 and is now charged with leaving the scene of an accident without notifying authorities.

The woman was not seriously injured.

After an arrest warrant was issued for the officer, Cornacchia turned himself in early Tuesday morning.

He has been suspended pending both an internal and a criminal investigation. He was released on $1,000 bail.
