Convicted NH sex offender accused of peeping again

SALEM, N.H. — Lysette Labrecque is disturbed to hear what 24-year-old Travis Demers of Manchester, N.H. stands accused of again.

“It’s pretty disgusting, especially as a mother and an aunt. It’s gross,” said Lysette Labreque, of Salem.

Demers is accused of photographing a woman inside the bathroom at the Mall at Rockingham Park on May 30.

“It’s alarming. It is,” said Capt. Jason Smith of the Salem, N.H. Police Department.

Police says Demers is accused of using his phone to take video or pictures of a woman inside a bathroom stall.

“When she saw a hand come underneath the stall with a camera on it, she believed she was being recorded or pictures were being taken,” said Capt. Smith.

Capt. Smith says the woman chased after Demers.

“She ran after the male subject and confronted him, and from that was able to give a description to the officer,” said Capt. Smith.

Police used surveillance video from the mall to get a partial license plate and tracked Demers to his Manchester address. Police tell Boston 25 that he has prior convictions for similar acts and is a registered sex offender in New Hampshire.

On Saturday, Candia, N.H. Police arrested Demers on separate charges and handed him over to Salem Police, who had a warrant for his arrest.

The fact that he is a repeat offender is alarming to many.

“I mean it’s pretty sad that they let him out, and he did that again. How many times is he going to do this it stops,” said Sandy Labrecque, of Salem.

Demers is being held pending another hearing, and that is a relief to many.

“I think it’s great. It’s just one less person to be a creep around people and kids and women,” said Lysette Labreque.

Police tell Boston 25 they worry if he’s not stopped, his behavior could escalate. Demers is being held without bail until a hearing can determine his status.
