FALMOUTH, Mass. - A historic headstone police believed to have been stolen from a Flamouth cemetery over the weekend was actually just removed for repairs.

The headstone in question, which dates back to the 18th century, was taken from the Old Burying Ground off Mill Road, according to a witness.

Police were called to the scene after the witness reported seeing a white man loading the headstone into the back of a black pick up truck.

However, officials later learned the family of the deceased had the stone removed for repairs and will return it to its original spot once repairs are complete.
