Man stabbed to death in South End, police looking for attacker seen fleeing on bike

BOSTON — A man was stabbed to death near Boston Medical Center Wednesday night and police say they are looking for the attacker who fled on a bike.

Boston police said a man in his 30s was found at the corner of Albany Street and Massachusetts Avenue just after 9 p.m. with several stab wounds. He was taken to BMC and later died. Officials are now investigating the stabbing as a homicide.

Police Commissioner William Gross said from the scene that police believe there was a fight between the victim and attacker before the stabbing. The attacker then fled, and took off on a bike toward Harrison Avenue.

Police are trying to learn who the suspect is and if the suspect and victim knew each other. It's unclear if drugs had anything to do with the fight.

Officers are gathering and sifting through every frame of video they can find from Boston Medical, MBTA buses, and elsewhere.

"There are a lot of cameras and often there are a lot of folks so anything that we can get to help facilitate this investigation," said Gross.

The fatal stabbing is the 31st homicide in Boston this year; there were 37 at the same time last year, Suffolk County District Attorney Rachael Rollins, who joined Gross at the scene, told reporters.

Investigators are asking witnesses or anyone with information to contact Boston police at 800-494-TIPS or by texting the word 'TIP' to CRIME (27463).
