BROCKTON, Mass. - A Plymouth County grand jury has indicted a man on charges he sexually assault a woman jogging in Bridgewater and then tried to abduct her, according to District Attorney Timothy Cruz.

Gordon Lyons, 58, of Bridgewater, was indicted on charges of  kidnapping, indecent assault and battery on a person over the age of 14, assault and battery and reckless operation. Police had previously charged him with the first three offenses. He’ll be arraigned on the reckless operation charge at a later date.

Police said Lyons tried to abduct the 37-year-old woman as she jogged down Pleasant Street on a Sunday in June. He fled the scene, but the woman was able to get a picture of his car with her cell phone.

According to police, Lyons crashed his car in West Bridgewater minutes after the attempted abduction. He was later arraigned from his hospital bed at Boston Medical Center and ordered held without bail.

Court documents reveal Lyons previously pleaded not guilty in a 1978 rape case.
