Man found dead in car after Dorchester shooting

BOSTON — Boston Police are investigating a fatal shooting in Dorchester Tuesday night.

Police were called to the area of 34 Claybourne Street just before 11 p.m. for reports of shots fired.

When police arrived, they found a dark-colored sedan in the middle of the road with a man inside. The man, who police say appeared to be in his mid-20s, had gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead on scene.

Witnesses told police they saw two possible suspects running away from the scene.

Boston Police Commissioner William Evans says this is the city's 24th homicide of the year, which is up from this time last year.

"Obviously I'm trouble that it's up from last year, but we're down 15 shootings from last year at this time, but homicides are up because we've had five stabbings, which is highly unusual for homicides," said Evans.

It's unclear what led up to the shooting or if the car was in motion at the time.

Police spent the night searching the area for evidence and possible surveillance cameras.
