Man arrested on drug, weapons charges after traffic stop in Wareham

WAREHAM, Mass. — Wareham Police arrested a 25-year-old man on Tuesday evening, levying multiple drug and weapon charges on him, according to a release from the department.

Officials observed the man – later identified as Devyn Nickerson, 25, of no certain address – acting suspiciously as he entered a car around 6 p.m. on Tuesday. The incident occurred in the Onset area of Wareham, where police have been allegedly surveilling for reported illegal drug activity.

Nearly 20 minutes after watching Nickerson enter the vehicle, officers pulled over the car that the suspect was traveling in. Police then allege that, while approaching the vehicle, they observed Nickerson making "furtive movements" in an attempt to hide an object.

When officers had Nickerson step out of the car, police allegedly witnessed a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun located on the suspect's hip, fully loaded. Law enforcement recovered the weapon, which they claim is unlicensed, and placed Nickerson under arrest.

At the police station, officers located 62 grams of suspected fentanyl, 22 grams of suspected cocaine, multiple pills and $785 in cash on Nickerson's person.

The suspect was charged with Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, Possession of Ammunition without a Firearms Identification Card, Possession of a Class E Drug, Trafficking in Cocaine, and Trafficking in More Than 10 Grams of Fentanyl.
