Man accused of smashing windows, throwing shards of glass at Cambridge police officers

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — A man is accused of smashing the windows of a business and then throwing the shards of glass at Cambridge police officers.

Police arrested Matthew Dray, 26, of Somerville, just after 3 a.m. Thursday.

Officers received multiple calls to respond to a location on Brattle Street for reports of a disturbed male acting irrationally.

Upon arrival, police said Dray was inside a second-story business breaking large commercial windows and yelling obscenities. Officers were standing at ground level when they said Dray threw shards of glass and other objects at them.

Police said Dray resisted every effort officers made to get him under control, but after a brief struggle they placed him into handcuffs and transported to a hospital. He was later taken to the Cambridge police station.

According to police, Dray destroyed four large (8 foot by 8 foot) commercial grade windows, a computer monitor and two illuminated exit signs.

Damage is estimated to be worth more than $10,000.

Two of Dray’s friends, who were with him at the start of his rampage, gave statements to officers.

Dray is being charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, malicious destruction of property, disturbing the peace and resisting arrest.
