BOSTON — An assistant chief probation officer for Lynn District Court was arrested and charged in Boston with child exploitation.

Federal authorities arrested and charged Brian Orlandella, 46, of Beverly with one count of sexual exploitation of a child and one count of transfer of obscene material to a minor.

According to court documents, in May 2018 a mother in Texas alerted local authorities about messages her 13-year-old daughter had been exchanging with an adult man, later identified as Orlandella.

The messages were being sent via Kik and revealed conversations where the man had sent the girl images of him masturbating and asking her to send him naked pictures and videos of her.

In the messages, the girl told the man she was a minor and he acknowledged he was much older than she was.
