Lowell HS teacher resigns after alleged relationship with former student

LOWELL, Mass. – The Middlesex District Attorney’s office is investigating after allegations against a faculty member at Lowell High School.

According to a letter sent out by school officials, the faculty member allegedly had inappropriate communication with a former student.

“He is a high school teacher who had inappropriate letters with a minor. It was just letters,” Superintendent Salah Khelfaoui said.

The teacher, who hasn't been identified, was placed on leave when the allegations were made last week and has since resigned.

Students told Boston 25 News he was a popular teacher who has two children.

"I was pretty surprised. He didn’t seem like that type. He would always be playing the guitar in the hallways for the kids," sophomore Cyrilyn Clemens said.

It's unclear exactly what the nature of the incident was, but students said the teacher had a knack for making them smile in the hallways.

"It makes me feel uncomfortable to think that a person that seems like they’re trying to have fun with kids can flip it," sophomore Gianna Hairsun said.

School officials said there are no allegations involving other students. At this time the teacher's name is being withheld because he hasn't been charged with a crime.
