Two injured after driver crashes into Somerville restaurant

SOMVERVILLE, Mass. — At least one patron was injured Monday evening when a truck crashed into a Somerville restaurant.

Crews spent hours cleaning up the damage at Mr. B’s Restaurant after a driver plowed through the brick wall.

“I called 911, I saw all the smoke inside the store,” the restaurant’s owner, Mehmet Bakirci, said.

Bakirci says he was inside finishing up an order for an Uber delivery driver when he felt the building shake, and he believes that delivery driver tried to dodge the truck as it crashed right into the building.

Bakirci then saw the man bleeding from a few injuries before he was taken to the hospital.

“I see the car maybe hit the chest and face because his face was bleeding,” said Bakirci.

As for the truck driver, Bakirci says he tried to run away after the crash, but police were able to catch him down the street from the restaurant.

“He’s also injured, he couldn’t run,” said Bakirci.

Somerville Police have not said yet whether charges will be filed against the driver, who has not yet been identified.
