Thanksgiving travelers tussle with transit turmoil

Thanksgiving traffic was in full swing throughout the Boston area Tuesday and MassDOT expects Wednesday to be even busier.

For those flying out of Logan tomorrow, it’s probably best to pack patience.

“We haven’t hit the roads yet but people picking us up are definitely stuck in some traffic,” traveler Natalie Gurson told Boston 25 Tuesday.

Tuesday and Wednesday are two of the busiest travel days of the year – for both the roads and airports – where the TSA expects to screen nearly 20,000 more people per day at Logan Airport this Thanksgiving week compared to last year.

“It’s what I miss about Massachusetts while I’m gone is the traffic I guess,” said Hannah Wyllie, who was commuting back from college.

Lots of college students hit the road Tuesday to head home for the holiday.

“I had a class this morning that I couldn’t skip and so it just made sense for me to hit the road after, and I kind of knew I was going to get stuck so I put together a good playlist, called some friends,” said Wyllie.

“My school kicks us out at a certain time so we have to get out, so I try to leave as early as possible so I left around 1, 2 o’clock, you know see if I can beat it,” said Patrick Mello.

And if you can’t beat the traffic at this point – for many it’ll still be worth it.

“Going to see my cousins,” said four-year-old Collins Gurson.

“We have some folks that are coming in to visit up here for the first time that have not traveled over the last few years so we’re excited to see all of them as well,” said Natalie Gurson.
