Power problems at Kenmore create commuter headache

BOSTON — The MBTA Green Line is experiencing delays during the Friday evening commute.

Transit officials say shuttle buses are replacing service between Kenmore and Government Center due to a power problem near Kenmore.

Government Center and Kenmore stations are popular travel options for commuters going to Fenway Park. The Red Sox play the New York Yankees tonight at 7:10 p.m.

When reached for comment, a spokesperson for the MBTA sent the following statement:

“Around 6 PM, a power problem was reported at Kenmore. As a result, three Green Line trains became unable to move within the tunnels between Hynes and Kenmore. About 100 people were on each train -- these riders were escorted from the trains back to Hynes (two trains of riders) and Kenmore (one train of riders). There are no reported injuries. Shuttles are currently replacing service between Kenmore and Government Center while the cause is investigated and ultimately fixed.”

Shortly after 8:30 p.m. the MBTA updated their twitter account to say that “service between Kenmore and Government Center has resumed.”
