Strong winds send tree crashing through Topsfield home

TOPSFIELD, Mass. — Strong winds tore down trees across the state Tuesday, sending one pine crashing into a Topsfield couple’s home.

Kelley and Constantine Markos awoke at 4 a.m., to the tree, split in half, piercing their roof.

Two large branches were still poking through the ceiling of their home office Tuesday night.

“We heard this loud boom,” Kelley said. “It almost sounded like an explosion.”

Kelley showed Boston 25 News the damage inside their Ledgewood Circle home.

“I can’t believe I have a pine tree in my house,” Kelley said. “If we had been in there, who knows what could’ve happened? It could’ve been a lot worse. We know we’re lucky.”

The whipping winds struck at just the right time; Constantine typically sits inches away at his desk, and one of their dogs often sleeps in the room.

“I try to keep it in perspective,” Kelley said. “My husband, me, my pets, they’re the things that are important. So, this can be fixed. It might take awhile, but it can be fixed.”
