Police say deceased dog found in Lawrence suffered extensive abuse

LAWRENCE, Mass. — A deceased young female Jack Russel Terrier-type dog was found in late March behind South Lawrence East Middle School on Crawford Street.

After further investigation done by the Lawrence Police Department and the Animal Rescue League, officials discovered that the dog’s death was the result of extensive abuse.

Police are now urgently seeking information that could determine who may have been responsible.

On March 17, Lawrence Police discovered the approximately 1-year-old dog at 10: 45 a.m. along a frequently walked trail located behind the Lawrence middle school. The white and tan dog was found wrapped in a “pee pad” and placed in a black plastic bag, covered in urine and blood.

Officials told Boston 25 they believe the dog was not left in that area for very long.

The necropsy determined that the dog’s cause of death was from acute blood loss and multiple skull fractures. There was also extensive bruising on the body that indicated the dog was likely extensively abused in the 36-hours before its death.

Police ask if anyone knows of information about this ongoing investigation, to contact the Lawrence Police Department’s Carmen Poupora at (978) 794-5900 x625 or ARL Law Enforcement at (617) 426-9170 ext. 110 or cruelty@arlboston.org.

There is also a scheduled press briefing on the investigation Wednesday, April 7 at 11:30 p.m. Joe King, ARL Director of Law Enforcement will attend to provide further information on the case.
