19-year-old man arrested in connection to deadly shooting in Lawrence

LAWRENCE, Mass. — An investigation is underway after a man was killed following a shooting in Lawrence, according to police.

Officers responded to reports of shots fired on Crosby Street at approximately 8 p.m. Sunday.

The Essex District Attorney’s Office told Boston 25 News they found a man, later identified as Jeffrey Ruiz, 21, of Lowell, suffering from gunshot wounds before he was sent to Lawrence General Hospital, where he later died.

Police said the shooting did not appear to be random.

Monday morning, Lawrence Police and the Massachusetts State Police arrested Josef Guillen, 19, of Lawrence, in connection to the shooting that happened Sunday night. Guillen is expected to be arraigned Monday in Lawrence District Court.

The shooting incident remains under investigation by Lawrence Police, the Essex State Police Detective Unit, and the Essex District Attorney’s Office.
