People take cover as temperatures plummet

QUINCY, Mass — The temperature has been dropping throughout the day. Many people decided to do some last-minute preps as they felt how cold it was getting.

Even New Englanders who like to play the weather down are taking this bitter cold seriously.

John Folan, of Milton, was thankful the bitter cold would only be around for a couple of days.

“Layers and stay inside as much as I can,” said Folan.

Curry Ace Hardware owner Sean Curry says because January was so mild people are now ramping up their cold weather preps.

“We saw a run this week on people looking for window kit insulation, people buying firewood to kind of get prepared if they lose heat. Spray foam insulation to plug up those holes and stuff,” said Curry.

At Bass Pro Shops in Foxborough, General Manager Jeff Moschella has the gloves, socks and handwarmers front and center.

“People are definitely on a mission to get their cold weather gear. We certainly see that when the cold weather arrives,” said Moschella.

Bill Kennedy has a general rule of thumb for when he stays inside.

“Anything in the teen. If it gets into the single digits. I won’t do it,” said Kennedy.

But instead of going stir-crazy he likes to get out of the house but still stay inside.

Boston 25 News caught up with him shopping at Bass Pro Shops.

“How many times can you watch Jeopardy,” Kennedy joked. “Gotta keep the blood moving.”
