Officials issue public safety warning to Waltham residents after man allegedly broke into woman’s home, sexually assaulted her

WALTHAM, Mass. — Authorities are warning Waltham residents to be on alert after a woman was sexually assaulted by a man inside her own home.

Preliminary investigation conducted by the Middlesex DA’s office and the Waltham Police Department suggests the incident happened in the early morning hours of June 14 at the Ridge Apartment Complex located at 55 Ridge Lane in Waltham.

The victim, a woman in her 50s, had been out for a walk with her dog and returned home shortly after 11:00 p.m. Once back inside, she was physically and sexually assaulted by a man who entered her home undetected while she was out.

Investigators believe the suspect may have been in the victim’s home for several hours during the attack. Evidence suggests the attacker was known to the victim.

“This very serious assault is especially concerning because it appears to be a random act. As we continue our investigation, we want to remind members of the public to remain vigilant,” said District Attorney Marian Ryan. “People are encouraged to exercise caution in the apartment complex and neighboring areas. Always be aware of your surroundings, if possible avoid walking alone when it’s late or dark and immediately call 911 if you feel unsafe or see something concerning.”

Anyone who may have witnessed anything in relation to the incident is asked to contact the Detective Division at 781-314-3550.

This is an active investigation and so far no arrests have been made. Residents are encouraged to be on alert and remain vigilant, especially at night or in the early morning.
