New England city lands on list of ‘most underrated’ travel destinations in the world

BURLINGTON, VT. — New England is home to one of the 14 “most underrated” travel destinations in the entire world, according to a new ranking.

Time Out recently asked its global network of travel writers and editors about what they thought the world’s most overlooked travel destination was.

As expected, an array of stunning beach cities from Greece to Indonesia to Mexico populated the list. Perhaps the most unexpected city on the list was Burlington, Vermont, but it comes as no surprise for those of us who call New England home.

Highlighting five Vermont chefs and eateries recently selected as semifinalists for the 2023 James Beard awards, Time Out said that Burlington is becoming “one of the country’s unmissable food and drink destinations.”

Time Out specifically shouted out Honey Road, an Eastern Mediterranean-influenced eatery and Foam Brewers, a small experimental brewery that sits along the Lake Champlain waterfront.

Mongolia was named the most underrated travel destination in the world.
