Somerville cousins describe confusion as bullets blast through windows of apartment

SOMERVILLE, Mass. — Two cousins are describing the initial moments after two bullets blasted through the window of their Somerville apartment.

Police said the shots were fired from a moving vehicle on Memorial Road Tuesday night shortly after 7:00 p.m.

According to investigators, the shots were apparently aimed at a group of people who were standing in front of the public housing building.

The bullets didn’t hit anyone, but three struck two separate apartments.

79-year-old Toi Ngo and 77-year-old Ty Trin were inside one of those units.

Trin said he was sitting in the living room and was nearly hit by one of the bullets that ended up lodged in the wall behind his head.

“I’m lucky I’m not dead,” said Trin.

Police are now looking for the driver of red or maroon Subaru and the occupant who fired the shots.

When asked if she was scared during the ordeal, Trin’s cousin replied “no”.

“No, because I know Vietnam War. After that, it would be hard to scare,” said 79-year-old Toi Ngo.

The cousins, who fled to the United States after the Vietnam War, said they’ve had to be tough through most of their lives.

They told Boston 25 News they won’t let this close call disrupt their peace at home.

A woman who lives in the other unit that was hit by a bullet said she was not home at the time.

She said she is feeling uneasy and hopes police make arrests soon.
