Middle school student hit by school bus in Braintree during school dismissal

BRAINTREE, Mass. — An 11-year-old girl was sent to a Boston hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after being struck by a school bus in Braintree, local police said.

The crash occurred around 2:40 p.m. near 46 Hillside Rd. The girl was conscious and alert on scene and was taken by ambulance to the hospital with her mother, police said.

Hillside Road was closed temporarily for the investigation. The East Middle School issued the following statement:

“We want to make you aware of an incident at East Middle School that occurred this afternoon during dismissal. A student was struck by a bus while crossing a street. We would like to thank police, fire, EMS, and East staff, who immediately responded to the situation. Through this response, the student was treated on scene and transported to the hospital. Early indications are that the student will be okay, but we ask all families to take this serious moment to discuss with your children the importance of being vigilant and aware as they travel to and from school.”

Braintree Police and Massachusetts State Police are investigating.
