High Stakes Races in New Hampshire Primary

Voters headed the polls on a rainy Tuesday in New Hampshire as all eyes are on the Granite State. The state’s primary features some key races that could create big political shifts in Washington.

And New Hampshire primary voters are seeing two very crowded ballots. Millions of dollars are pouring into the state from both political parties. The campaign ads are everywhere.

One of the most watched races is the race for U.S. Senate. While the incumbent Democrat, Senator Maggie Hassan is expected to easily surpass her two Democratic primary challengers, several polls over the last six months show Hassan with just slight leads, about 1-3 points, over her potential GOP opponents.

A recent Granite State Poll, conducted by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center, found Retired Brigadier General Don Bolduc leading the NH Senate president, Chuck Morse, for the Republican nomination, with other candidates far behind.

The biggest state race is New Hampshire’s race for governor. Republican Governor Chris Sununu is facing 5 challengers in the GOP primary.

Another UNH Survey Center poll found a majority of New Hampshire voters, and 85% of Republicans, approve of Sununu’s performance as governor. 72% of voters said he was their preferred candidate in the GOP primary.

New Hampshire Congressman Chris Pappas is running unopposed on the Democratic ballot. There are 10 Republicans looking to challenge him in November.

Congresswoman Annie Kuster is also unopposed on the Democratic side. She has three Republican challengers.
