Handcuffed suspect wearing one shoe escapes Charlton Police custody

CHARLTON, Mass. — Charlton Police are searching for a suspect they say escaped police custody.

The suspect is a Hispanic male, approximately 6′2″ tall. He was wearing a white shirt, white shorts, has a handcuff on one hand and is missing a shoe.

Mass State Police tell Boston 25 News the suspect was arrested at 8 a.m. Tuesday on multiple warrants on charges including assault and attempted murder.

He escaped police custody on Route 20 by McGee GMC on Sturbridge Road and is believed to have fled into the woods near the Charlton Plaza.

According to police, about an hour later, “a sport utility vehicle that had fled the scene after the suspect ran from it was located at the Walmart off Route 146 in Worcester. The female driver of that vehicle was detained for further investigation.”

If you see the suspect, do not approach him and call 911.
