Man in custody, accused of shooting, seriously injuring victim in Lowell

LOWELL, Mass. — Authorities arrested a man on Saturday accused of shooting and seriously injuring a victim the previous night.

Sovandara Khiaosoth, 29, of Lowell is charged with armed assault with intent to murder, possession of a firearm without a license, unlawful possession of ammunition, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, and assault and batter with a dangerous weapon (firearm).

Officers responding to the area of Lilley Avenue around 10:30 p.m. on March 10 found an adult man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, according to Lowell Police. Medical aid was immediately rendered and the victim was transported to a local hospital, then to a Boston hospital for the severity of his injuries.

His condition at this time is unknown.

During the ensuing investigation, officers identified Khiaosoth as the alleged shooter, officials say. He was arrested on Saturday and will appear in court at a later date.

It is unclear if Khiaosoth and the victim were known to each other.
