Dozens arrested over the weekend at Boston area beaches

REVERE, Mass. — A dozen people were arrested over the weekend as disturbances continued for the second straight weekend at Revere Beach and South Boston’s Carson Beach.

In South Boston District Court, several people were arraigned Monday on charges ranging from disorderly conduct to assault and battery on a police officer.

This is the second weekend and a row police have seen large fights break out at popular beaches.

In South Boston, hundreds gathered once again on Sunday to beat the heat. But it didn’t take long for that party to turn into chaos.

Fireworks could be heard amongst the crowds in Revere over the weekend, although some thought it was gunshots. A day earlier, people tell us some of the people in these large crowds were in Revere carrying guns.

“There’s no need for violence,” a local beach goer said, “no need at all.”

People at Carson and Revere Beaches told Boston 25 News that they hope police will maintain high visibility during the coming Memorial Day holiday weekend.

“People stop coming when things like that happen, shootings, stabbings, people acting the way they were. People stop coming to the beach I think it’s something we need to take care of,” said Joao Garcia of Boston.
